Future minerals

For first time in our museums, the Museum of Geology Valentí Masachs presents a number of minerals that are by big utility, for our society and that are considered strategic.

What are they?: The Rare Earth , the Platinum group (Platinum, Osmium, Rhodium, Iridium, Ruthenium and Palladium), the lithium, niobium, tantalum (coltan) indium, gallium, germanium, rubidium, cesium and graphene.

Are minerals composed of useful elements: Green Technologies (energy saving), consumer electronics, medicine, industry, military defense systems, batteries electric cars, hybrid cars, jewelry, vehicle catalysts, dental, laboratory chemicals, alloys, devices small electronics, such as phones, memory sticks, ipod’s, ipad’s, pc’s, flat screen TV, game consoles, solar cells, clinical thermometers, touch screens, drilling, chemotherapy, etc.

All can be found in the museum, seeing many of their applications and see how it can be recycled to achieve a holding of them as sustainable as possible.

The Museum of Geology Valentí Masachs has published a book in the form of chips, with the name: Recursos Minerals: Aplicacions i Reciclatge, on minerals, elements that form them, their applications and recycling, designed and written for make it understandable from ESO, Bachelor, Vocational Training to Universities, and also for the general public.
